Joda Reid

The Presidents Singles Final for 2009 was between Joda Reid and Gourock Park newcomer, Gordon McFarlane reaching his first final since he joined from the sadly now closed, IBM Bowling Club.

The beginning of the game was close and after six ends the tie was all square at four shots all.
Joda, going for the 'double' this year, took the next three ends including an inch perfect draw at the eighth end to lead 7 v 4 after eight played.
Gordon was playing equally as well at this stage, and very soon things were all square again with the score being 7 shots all after ten ends gone.

The next end saw Joda take advantage of a poor end by his opponent and he added a treble to his score, to once again get his nose in front by 10 shots to 7.

Gordon hit back with a single at the next only for Joda to grab a fine single of his own at the thirteenth which brought the score to 11 v 8 as the rain started to fall
The conditions for the players were good until around the end of the 13th end, when the clouds moved in and the sparse sunshine gave way to a steady fall of rain.

Joda increased his lead to 14 v 8 at the next and was holding shot again in the 15th end, when he trailed the jack perfectly away from Gordon's shot bowl. Not to be outdone, Gordon then delivered a weighted bowl that dislodged the shot bowl and in doing so took two shots to himself, to make the score 14 v 10 to Joda.

The 16th end belonged to Joda and he took a double to increase the lead to 16 v 10 and followed this up with a single in the 17th and a double at the 18th end.

The next end sealed it for Joda as Gordon played a heavy bowl in an  attempt to remove Joda's shot bowl, but instead struck his own bowl clear out the head, which left Joda sitting with a match winning treble.
Well done to Joda on winning the only remaining 'four bowl' singles at Gourock Park, that he had never captured before and commiserations to Gordon, who I am sure will reach this stage many times in the years to come at the park.
