15th July
The Presidents Singles at Gourock Park has now reached the semi-final stage and this sees two very good ties. Current holder, Terry Duffy is up against Rodger Lynn and in the other tie, 'unofficial' club champ, Robert Grant will play John Kane.

In the club Championship, 3 of the semi-finalists have been decided. Jim Crawford will play Robert Grant and Alex Cunningham awaits the winner of the delayed tie between John Kane and current holder, Jim Mc Cready. Their game has been held up due to both the weather and now more recently because one of Jim's Bowls has gone awol!!   It appears that we have either a petty thief or an over the top practical joker at Gourock Park.  If anyone knows any information on the location of this bowl please get in touch with Jim or a committee member asap.

The Monday night wapinschaw has been a great success at Gourock Park and the current score board will be listed here soon.

John Freeburn Update
The Young Bowlers Tournament is being played on Lady Alice at 10.00a.m. on Sunday 20th. July and all names were to be in my hands for yesterday. I warned everybody in plenty of time, so if you haven't entered you will need to contact Gerry Watters by Wednesday. Would the people who have submitted entries, come along and bring your shoes - markers are always helpful. Once again, this is a great occasion for our youngsters and I think that the older ones enjoy it as well. We are indebted to Sandy and Christine Reddy for sponsoring the tournament and to Gerry and his team for running it.

Site Stats Trivia

As can be seen in the figures below, the amount of page views at this site reached an all time high in July of this year. Over 11,000 individual pages hits were recorded. This is a fantastic figure and one which keeps the site amongst the most popular bowling sites in the UK. Of these page views, 22% were the result of people finding the site through search engines,Google and Yahoo, 8% came direct from links on other sites and the remaining 70% typed the site address into their browser. As you would expect most people view the site direct from a PC but 13% use their mobile phone. Some other interesting stats are that 69% of visitors are from the UK with Norway being the highest of other nations viewing the site, followed by Australia.
75% of viewers are using Windows XP, 16% use Vista. The most common screen resolution is still 1024 by 768

Club champion, Jim Mc Cready, defeated John Kane tonight despite having to play this quarter-final tie with a borrowed set of bowls. Jim was in great form and won by 21 shots to 13.  Meanwhile there is still no sign of Jim's missing bowl, which has mysteriously disappeared from his locker.

Lady Alice's Rikki Mc Neill won the G&D Young Bowler competion which was played for at Lady Alice yesterday (Sun).

The Ladies SBA National Finals will take place this coming weekend at Ayr. Gourock Park will be represented in the Singles by Nancy Hawthorn and Stacy Lungley will be out in the Junior Singles. On behalf of all the members, I wish them both an enjoyable and successful time.

29th July 2008
Gourock Park's Stacy Lungley did herself and Gourock Park proud recently at the S.W.B.A. National Finals at Ayr last weekend. In her first game, Stacy defeated Alison Livingstone of Victoria Park in two straight sets to set up a meeting against Scottish Under 25's Internationalist, Amanda Beveridge, in round two.  Despite her opponent being older and more experienced, Stacy again won her game in straight sets.

So it was then on to the Semi-final on Sunday morning, where again a scottish international player stood in her way. This time her opponent, Causewayhead's Becky Campbell played the better bowls and won the game in two sets. Stacy can be very proud of her efforts and I have no doubt that she will grace the greens of the Northfield complex in years to come. I also think that it will not be long before she is given a trial for the Scottish Under 25's Team . Also featuring at Ayr was Nancy Hawthorn, who was out in the Singles. Unfortunately she went down in a close game against Christine Donaldson of Banchory. All the draws from Ayr can be found via this link.

The SBA Gents Championships will get underway this Thursday at Ayr and Gourock Park's Rink will be hoping to bring back the silverware.  I wish Joda, Alex, Ian and Rodger all the best for a successful time.
Of the other district entrants, a lot of attention will fall on the attempt by Sandy Wotherspoon to retain his SBA Singles title and I hope he does well. Elsewhere I wish all the other district players taking part at the championships all the best

OOPS!
Was doing some web space clean ups on the site as we are reaching the upper limit of our web server. I unfortuately deleted the recent pics from our friendly against Blackhall and the pics from the recent Ardgowan Hospice.  I will try to get them back on asap.
