The winning of the SBA Fours Championship by Gourock Park was a fantastic achievement and they deserve all the credit for bringing more SBA success to District 23. Its just a shame that the area was not also able to celebrate Port Glasgow's Sandy Wotherspoon's defence of the Singles title.  Sandy performed brilliantly to once again reach the Scottish final but unfortunately did not play to his own high standards and was defeated by a man they call 'the machine, Wayne Hogg, by 21 shots to 9. Obviously Sandy will be disappointed, but he can be proud of his efforts and of course is still the proud owner of the British title and will very soon have a chance to excel in the World Championships, which I believe are in Aberdeen in September.

Well done to Gourock's Seniors on reaching the Semi-finals only to lose out against the winners of the title, Stranraer West.  Overall District 23 can be proud of its SBA performances recently. Over the last three years we have claimed three Scottish Titles. In 2006 it was Port Glasgow's Seniors, who won the title with amazing good fortune in the last end. 2007 it was Sandy Wotherspoon, again of Port Glasgow, who romped home in the Scottish Singles and lastly the recent win by Gourock Park's Fours. Who will it be next year ?

Missing Bowl Turns up!
The Bowl that went missing several weeks ago belonging to current Club Champion, Jim McCready, has turned up tonight at Gourock Park. It was found under bushes by one of the junior members and rightfully returned to a delighted Jim Mc Cready. As to how it got there is and probably will be forever a mystery.

The Un-Official Club Championship
We have a new unofficial champion at Gourock Park after Jim Crawford's victory over the reigning champion, Robert Grant in tonights Official Club Championship semi-final tie.  Jim will now play the winner of the Jim Mc Cready versus Alex Cunningham, a match that will see whoever wins becoming official and unofficial champion at the same time!   Confused ?  Click here for explanation
Due to double booking, Victoria is not available for 1st./2nd round G&D Pairs and Triples ties on Saturday 16th.August. These ties will now be played on Ardgowan Club's green. No change to the time, just a different venue.

The success story's of Gourock Park's brightest prospect in decades goes on and on. Already club champion in her first year out of the juniors and selected for a Scottish International test, young Stacy has now proved she can compete with the best by reaching the final of the G&D Ladies Singles, which will be played at Gourock Park this thursday. I would not be surprised if she was to go out and win this one too!  Well done Stacy.

Womens G&D Summary
29th August 2008
Most of you will have probably heard the rumours that IBM Bowling Club will close at the end of this season. I have known for some time but respected the wishes of Robert Harron not to publish the matter until it was officially confirmed. Sadly I have now received this from Robert and it can be read below.

If the latest rumours haven't yet reached you , let me CONFIRM that IBM Bowling Club WILL be closing at the end of the season.  This decision was made by the IBM Management Team who were unable to provide funding and after some discussion the Bowling committee reluctantly have had to realise any ideas of running the club ourselves were cost prohibitive.

The Bowling committee will be drafting a list of assets for sale and I will publish through this media within the next few weeks.  Can you please pass on this communication to your respective Secretaries for formal cascade to all your members.

Thank you for your support,

Robert Harron
