FINAL

Michael Stevenson

Jim Crawford

Having already claimed the Club Championship at Gourock Park just a week previous, Michael Stevenson, had every reason to go into this game against Jim Crawford with tons of confidence and this showed as he stormed into a 9 shots to nil lead after just five ends.

Jim Crawford fought back to ensure Michael was not getting things all his own way and over the next four ends, he captured two singles, a double and treble to make the score 9 v 7 in Michael's favour.

The two players were producing an excellent game and despite the falling temperature, forcing many to reach for their coats, nobody was heading for the exits amongst the 60 or so spectators watching on with great interest.

Michael took the tenth end with a single to lead 10 v 7 but Jim grabbed  a double and a single to make it all square at 10 shots all.

In end number thirteen, Jim Crawford took the lead by a shot                                                     for the first time in the game, but it was not to last long. A                                                        great treble from Michael at the next followed by a single                                                         brought the score to 14 v 11 after fifteen ends played.
The next few ends saw both players giving 100% effort and after twenty ends played we had a score of 16 v 15 in Michael's favour, with both of them producing bowling of the highest calibur.

Jim Crawford then piled some pressure on Michael, as he got within touching distance of the finishing post, scoring a double and single to lead for only the second time in the match, at 18 v 16 after twenty two ends.

Michael fought back and regained the lead after twenty four ends of fantastic bowling from both players, at 19 v 18.

The next end saw the game all square at 19 and both players nerves must have been taking a pounding as each tried to out bowl the other.

End number twenty six was to be the last of the game and what an end it was!
Both players were close, but when Jim prepared to deliver his last of his four bowls, his opponent was lying the two shots needed to give him the win, and he knew it was a real pressure shot!.
Jim stood on the mat, weighed up his shot and proceeded to deliver a brilliant bowl which turned a 2 bowl deficit into a single shot position.

What followed next I have to admit I did not see happening (if I had I would have stuck the camera into video mode)  as I trained my camera's lense on Michael's delivery and took a few quick fire shots to capture his delivery, he produced a simply brilliantly weighted bowl to trail the jack away from Jim's shot bowl and when it came to rest, he was lying the two shots needed, and took the game by 21 shots to 19.

Michael Stevenson & Jim Crawford
Runner-up Jim Crawford, looks deep in thought as he walks to deliver a shot.
The Goldfish in the fountain are the attraction                                          Vice-President, Ramsay Crawford, marked the game.
"Well played" Michael looks drained, after a long hard final as Jim congratulates him on his win
