Championship Singles 2010 Preview

The Gourock Park Championship draw has been made and as usual I have read through it and tried to predict who I think will be this year’s champion. It will be hard to better my 2009 prediction, when not only did I pick the winner, his opponent, but the actual score too!  But I will do my best.

Okay before I start, please remember this is for light entertainment purposes only. I know some people do not like me to tip them just in case I jinx them but its not what I type that counts, its what you do on the green that counts.

My predictions for the four semi-finalists are as follows-

Jim McCready who I think will beat J McCafferty, M Stevenson, Ian O Neill and Ian Brown to reach the semi-final.

Joda Reid who I think will see past Andy Kearns(Snr), Alan Jack, Ian McSwan(Snr), and Jim Crawford to secure his last four place.

The next one may surprise a few but in his Presidential year, I think Alex McIllravey(Jnr) has the potential to get the better of Ian Creelman, Robert Harron, George Twaddle and John Kane to gain a place in the semi-final.

And finally I think that Sam Blaikie will reach the last four with wins over  J Shaw, Tommy Monkhouse,  Davy Byrne and Jimmy Bradley

In the Semi-Finals I think that Joda will lose his crown in a very close battle with Jim McCready and in the other I think Sam Blaikie’s experience will see him win the game against Alex McIllravey.

So my prediction is that the 2010 Championship Final will be between Jim McCready and Sam Blaikie and from these two I am going for Jim McCready to clinch his fourth Championship at Gourock Park.

The score will be Jim 21 Sam 14

I also predict that some of my guesses could be way off the mark as there are several new players this year, who having not seen them play in any singles games, I have nothing really to go on except the fact that they are just taking up the game or have been playing at other clubs but I reckon I will at least get two of the four semi-finalists correct.

May the best man win!
