Greenock & District Championships 2010
Thanks go to Gourock Park's Ian Brown for sending in the following report and pictures for the Championship Finals, which were held at Parklea BC on Saturday 21st August
Singles - Peter Johnstone vs Stephen McLellan
Peter started well with a 2 – 3 – 1 to go 6-0 up,Stephen got on the card with a single, but peter was catching the rink better and went ahead 10 – 2.
Stephen's fight back started with a 4 and 1 to bring the game back to 10 – 7. The next few ends saw both players conceding only single shots 12 – 8 to peter, it was at this point Stephen started to master a tricky rink and went ahead for the first time 14 – 12,
Peter replied straight away with a 3 to go 15 – 14 up, then another single 16 – 14.This only spurred Stephen on, he got a 2 to peel at 16, then scored 1 – 3 – 1 to be crowned singles champion 2010.
Junior singles - John Fleming jnr vs Paul Mc Elwee
This was a close game throughout with Paul going into a early lead 5 – 4, then peels at 8 John then scored a full house to go 12 – 8 up
Paul fought back with a 2 to be just 2 behind at 12 – 10. John then scored 2 shots at the next 2 ends to go 16 – 10 in front, John continued to draw well and was 18 – 10 up and closing in for the victory, single shots were scored over the next few ends 20 – 12 for john.Paul had other ideas and scored a good 3 to bring the game back to 20 – 15.
The next end saw Paul lying 2 again at a full length jack, but it was young John who drew the 1 shot needed to win 21 - 15

The Port Glasgow pair were always in control of this game,the port boys went into an early lead 6 – 1 and continued to play the more consistant bowls to go 13 – 2 up.The skip from Fort Matilda, Graham played some very good heavy bowls when the head was against to cut down, a few shots changed hands over the closing ends but it was the Port pair that held on to win 16 – 7

This game was very even with the score 4 – 4, 5 – 5, 9 – 8 for the Wellington after 9 ends. A 3 at the next saw the Ardgowan team go 11 – 9 up a single at the next for the welly boys brought them to within 1, But it was the Ardgowan team that was to finish the stronger to win 18 – 11

This was a comfortable game for the east end team, with them always in control and playing well.After 10 ends the vic were 12 – 2 up a late rally from the Grosvenor got them a few shots but it was the Victoria boys that held on to win 15 – 6

After 7 ends the Rankin Park team were 6 – 3 up and 10 – 4 after 10 ends,they were the more consistant and went on to increase there lead to 13 – 6 after 13 ends.There was know way back for the Port Glasgow team and it was to finash 15 – 6 with an end to spare.
