JUNIOR CHAMPION 2008 --- JOHN REID jnr

Stacey Lungley, Rikki McNeill, John Reid, John Fleming, Darren Boyle and Claire Miller are some of the most recognised players around the Inverclyde Bowling clubs and all have won silverware for their bowling skills over the last few years. There are many more that I have not mentioned but the common denominator that links all of these names, is that they are all the rising stars of bowling and all successes of the Clubs that deploy coaching of the highest calibur for kids of all ages throughout the district

Gourock Park, Lady Alice and Rankin Park and Wellington Park all have strong youth sections and Ardgowan too have recently started to introduce kids into the game. It all means well for the future of bowling in this area and those involved should be very proud of their work, encouragement and devotion.  Well done to you all.
Gourock Park's Stacy Lungley has taken to the sport like a duck to water. In her first full year outside the junior ranks she has taken the Gourock Park Championship Singles title at the young age of 17. She then went onto win the Ladies Greenock & District Championship, which must makes her the youngest player ever to claim this elusive trophy. She also won the Gourock Park Ladies Nominated Pairs trophy, with her friend and fellow Junior success, Louise Watt. There was success too in the G&D Mixed Pairs with Terry Duffy and the Gourock Park Mixed Pairs with Robert Grant. In her first outing at National level, she reached the Semi-Final stages of the Junior Singles and her skills got the attention of the Scottish Selectors, so much that she was invited to take part in an Under 18's Scotland versus England team event.

She is clearly one of the most talented prospects in the Inverclyde area and is an example to all Juniors of what can be acheived with the right attitude and devotion to the sport.

It was just chance that brought Stacy into bowling in the first place. She was cycling within the grounds of Gourock Park when Andy Kearns, playing a bounce game, noticed her watching and asked her if she wanted to try it. This she did and later started attending the regular thursday evening coaching sessions that there held at the Club.

Another great prospect at Gourock Park is John Reid, son of
Joda. Young John captured the Greenock & District Young Bowlers title in 2006 and is sure to be amongst the silverware in years to come.
Gourock Park's major Juniors Tournament is supported by Aulds the Bakers and its great to see a local company supporting a worthy local cause. Its well attended by Juniors from around the district and the trophy has many great young bowlers names on it.  This years event was won by Darren Boyle from Lady Alice, who have a large and enthusiastic Junior section
Andy Kearns one of the Coaches at Gourock Park.
As mentioned above, Stacy Lungley, won the G&D Ladies Singles Championship in 2008. What I thought was strange was that the Ladies do not have a Junior Singles!.  Maybe this is because traditionally the female side of bowling tends to be ladies of a more mature age group. I personally think its time for them to seriously think about introducing a Junior Title to help encourage the Kids to get involved.
